John Mark Byers was a suspect while the three boys were being persecuted in prison. His role in the documentary Paradise Lost pointed a lot of fingers straight towards his guilt and his ties with cops and drug dealers made him even more susceptible to his own persecution through out the community. Byers gave the film a knife that his wife Melissa had given him 2 or 3 years prior to the murders. He stated that he had never used the knife and that it sat in the top drawer of his dresser since it had been given to him. When blood traces were found matching Christopher Byers DNA his story changed, saying that he had cut deer meat with it once. While other evidence could have potentially pointed towards Byers, no further testing was done to make any final conclusions.
In recent years Mark Byers has flipped a 180 on his view points towards the case, being an avid supporter to free the West Memphis Three. While evidence years ago pointed towards Byers as being behind the murders, with a knife having both Byers and Christopher's blood on it, new DNA evidence points the case into a different direction.
Terry Hobbs, stepfather of Stevie Branch, one of the 8-year-olds murdered, is now a new suspect in the 17 year old case. Due to DNA testing, Hobbs' hair was found in between a knot tied onto one of the boys. This new discovery has opened up an investigation on Terry Wayne Hobbs' and his alibi during the time of the boy's murders. Hobbs escaped much of the questioning and interviewing at the time of the initial investigation, leaving him out of the spotlight during the documentaries filmed. While nothing conclusive has surfaced in recent years with Hobbs or any other suspect, those on the case are hard at work trying to discover what actually happened that night at Robin Hood Hills.
